Week 1: September 1 - September 4

Updated: Sep 2, 2020

Welcome to Family World School

Today is the 1st day of school and for many of you, its your first time homeschooling your ... or so you might think!

Homeschool is a ten-letter word for a very four-letter concept, LOVE! You have been homeschooled by your first teacher from the time you learned to say Mama or Dada, from the time you learned to button your shirt or tie your shoe. Mama and Daddy may have even taught you about money comparison ($1 is more than 50¢). All of these things are important parts of growing up. Homeschool is all about learning important things from the people who love you and those in your community who want to help. Here, you will find a very big community of people who want to help. Your Math teacher may be in Kenya or Spanish teacher may be in Georgia and you may be anywhere between!

Vocabulary words are posted every week. You can use these words in your assignments. Most importantly, find out the definitions and practice spelling these words. They will be very helpful as you practice writing and reading.

Record yourself telling a true story about yourself. If you want to elaborate a little for effect we won't tell. Try to use the vocabulary words from the list to detail the events of your story. After you share your video with FWS @FamilyWorldSchool in Facebook, please find other learners' video and ask your fellow students something you may want to know about them.

Who are you? Write a short article or poem all about who you are as a person. Are you the person you want to be? Are you a friendly person? Are you someone who people can trust? Why do you think so? In the Files section of the FWS group on Facebook you can find a pdf on how to write an article.

Free Friday

Have you gone outside to observe nature today? If not, why not do it now? How many rolypolies can you count under the bushes near your house? What is the difference in temperature in the shade versus outside of the shade? Have you ever lain in the grass and watched the clouds move by for so long, you feel like you've started moving, too? Use today as a time to get out and observe nature. Even if it is raining, sit in your windowsill and watch life continue to thrive. Write down some of your observations in your journal.
